About Steven
A graduate of Scarsdale High School, Steven Scharf attended the University of Pennsylvania before transferring to Manhattanville College’s accelerated program in education. He graduated summa cum laude with honors and obtained a masters in secondary education with a focus in the humanities and special education. Steven also holds a masters degree in school counseling with an advanced certificate in college admission advising. For over 20 years he has taught in the Scarsdale Public School District, having started his career as an SAT and ACT coach.
Steven specializes in assisting high school and college students with their research and writing. He dissects complex assignments, breaks them into manageable components, and takes individuals through each step of their work. Through this process, not only do students boost their academic performance, but they also internalize the skills necessary for outstanding writing.
When helping students craft their admissions essays and supplements, Steven develops a holistic plan based on his intimate knowledge of the college process. Rather than merely suggesting a topic or editing one’s work, Steven takes an immersive, hands-on approach as he collaborates with students. He guides them to showcase their unique personalities through essays with the proper structure, tone, and creativity essential for success.
Steven works with students across the academic spectrum, high achievers and those who have difficulty in school. Whether you are well along your way or struggling to get started, he can aid you in perfecting all aspects of your writing.
